Where are the Miracles?

We have all heard of miracles in connection with the lives of the founders and prophets of every religion. Invariably, these miracles are reported to have taken place hundreds of years ago. We do not hear of such miracles today.

Why is it that we do not hear of miracles today? Is it because we do not have “masters” who are able to command the “supernatural”? Is it because we now tend to diabelieve miracles and attribute them to “sleight of hand”?
Or is it that through a lack of faith we do not allow  opportunities for miracles to take place?
Consider the following situation for a miracle to happen:

You are travelling on a mountain road, and meet with an accident that throws you out of your vehicle. Fortunately, you are able to hang on to the weak limb of a tree overhanging a cliff, just over a drop of hundreds of feet straight down.
You cannot make your way over the tree branch because it is not strong enough to carry your weight, and you are likely to break th branch and drop down if you try to do so.
You pray:” dear God, please help me! Rescue me from here, let me live! (and if you are like most people, you will also promise to make an offering at a place of worship, or donate to charity if God does help you.
And then you hear a voice say,” Okay, I am saving you. Just take your hold off the branch and drop down, and I’ll bring you safely down to earth, safely in my arms.Trust me.”
So how do you react to this word for God?
Again, if you are like most people, you will look up to heaven and ask God, “Is there no other way?”

And God has lost another opportunity to do a miracle!

Do you agree with me that we do not have miracles because we do not have the kind of strong faith that is necessary to make miracles happen? Do you also think that the absence of miracles points to a crisis of faith in today’s people?
